Aeronauts
By Jolene Dames
The Story of Aeronauts…Aeronauts is a 63”x45” large-scale painting of a universe that no longer exists. Its’ inhabitants were peaceful, loving creatures who aspired to love and support each other to their highest potential. And that is precisely what happened, the universe they lived in reached its’ highest potential because of them. This fraction of space didn’t disappear, though; it went on to form new constellations in the sky to guide others. Aeronauts is said to have been an ideal time and space, with this painting being the only thing remaining to tell its’ story. Written by ©Jolene Dames. In this world, Aeronauts was painted while working on the film “Sweet Girl,” starring Jason Momoa and is part of my series "Ms.Persall, Marry Me", inspired by the female mapmaker, Phyllis Persall. Having an affinity towards maps and exploring, I imagined other universes in this series. I use alphanumeric stars, imaginary timelines, and secret codes to create a visual story for each map, which will one day be a guide for exploring deeper space.
